Project Cycle Times-Translation Turnaround

The Company manages a daily workflow based on a production metric of 2,500 translated words per day / per translator.  In our experience this has proven to be the most reliable run rate to ensure a quality translation product. Factors such as file formatting and desktop publishing can affect overall cycle time, if extensive file creation or manipulation is required or the documents contain complex graphics that were designed in English but require adjustment for the translated text. A typical turnaround for normal processing is three (3) days from date of file receipt.

Cost Effective Services and Measurable Quality

Avalon Language Services offers clients lower overall language support costs due to economies of scale in sharing the cost of new translation technology and methodologies among a larger base of users and higher capacity utilization rates.  Examples of these technologies include translation memory tools such as Trados, an application in wide use throughout Avalon’s translation operations.

It is also important to note that we use a number of different project management tools across a wide range of document types and control document flow when the translation involves a team of translators or a large number of documents.  Checklists are used to ensure the translation-from initial document receipt to final proofreading-is complete and quality managed at every step in the process.

With respect to scheduled and unscheduled quality sampling activities, all translated documents are subjected to 100% quality assurance Level I and II editing and proofreading prior to redelivery to the client.  Each document batch is reviewed by a similarly skilled translator within the language group for grammar and proper language usage. Level II Proofreading and Validation ensures that technical factors such as glossaries have been incorporated to ensure consistency of terminology usage and commonality throughout the translated document or set of documents. It also ensures cultural aspects of a particular dialect or intended readership are present, or that a desired reading level has been established. This step is of particular importance for government, medical and healthcare oriented documents.

As a final quality assurance measure, the document checklists and signoffs are utilized to track and monitor compliance with each QA step and to ensure all required reviews have been accomplished.

Our service and pricing methodologies as well as overall project cycle times include proofreading by another similarly skilled professional translator, an important quality assurance step.  Not only do our resources permit the inclusion of final proofreading as a quality step following completion of the translation, we believe it is a critical factor that ensures consistency of terminology and the formation of term glossaries associated with the project or document set, particularly if the project involved a number of different translators.  Simply put, we historically incorporate this quality assurance mechanism into our business because it simply makes sense to do so, and ensures a superior result at project termination.  Quality control, within a customer concentric environment, is a focus that is always top of mind-not an afterthought-a concept that drives every aspect of our business.
